Making your home ready for winter

Clean the chimney: Winter is here. It is important for everyone to know that their chimney is in working condition. Hire a professional to do this work as a small accident can lead to fire in the whole house.

Update snow blowers and snow mobiles:If you have a snow blower or snow mobile, clean it before it turns into a last minute thing. You can use power wash to clean them. No big deal!!! If you have rust, you can clean it off with fine steel wool. Check if the carburetor is in working condition, air filters are clean, change engine oil and the belts and brakes are in right order.

Cleanup the pantry: As winter is here, clean up your pantry. Take out the things that you have not used for a long time. Check for labels. All the expired things need to be disposed off.  Again, no big deal. Have a trash can with you and start sorting out the expired items. Pay special attention to date of expiry. Some items that you think you will not use, toss them out. Throw away any cans that are dented or are missing labels.

Clean up and flip mattresses: Before winter starts, make sure to flip the mattresses over. It helps to keep dust and mites under control. Also, make sure to vacuum it also. It will give it a fresh and tidy look. You will certainly feel good.

Get the items dry-cleaned if needed: If there are any items, linens etc that need to be dry- cleaned.

Organize your garage: Since there will be lot of items in your garage that will not be used, stack them at appropriate place. Thoroughly clean up your garage. Throw away the items that you don’t need. There will be place that your winter items will need.

Garage sale: Thoroughly clean each and every corner of your house. If possible, have a garage sale, if weather allows. You can also donate stuff that you think can be of use to someone.
